Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ½ cup pizza sauce thick style
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 12 slices pepperoni
- 4 burger buns toasted
- ¼ tsp sliced black olives, bell peppers, or mushrooms optional
Cooking
Mix. Combine the beef, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl until just blended.
Shape. Form 4 patties slightly wider than the buns and press a shallow dimple into each center.
Sear. Cook in a skillet over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes per side until deeply browned.
Top. Spoon 2 tablespoons pizza sauce on each patty and add mozzarella and 3 slices of pepperoni.
Melt. Cover the skillet for about 2 minutes until the cheese bubbles and the center reaches 160 degrees F.
Build. Toast the buns, set a patty on each, add optional toppings, and serve hot.
Substitutions: Use provolone for mozzarella, or ground turkey with 1 tablespoon olive oil.
Tips: Do not overmix the beef, and use thick pizza sauce so it stays on the patty.
Storage: Refrigerate cooked patties within 2 hours for 3 to 4 days, and reheat to 165 degrees F.
