- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup water
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp white vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch round baking pan.
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
Mix wet ingredients in a separate bowl: water, oil, vinegar (or lemon juice), and vanilla extract.
Pour wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined and smooth.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
