Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½  cups all‑purpose flour
  • 1  cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3  cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1  tsp baking soda
  • ½  tsp salt
  • 1  tsp vanilla extract
  • 1  tbsp white vinegar
  • 1/3  cup vegetable oil
  • 1  cup cold water or coffee for deeper flavor

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 °F / 175 °C. Lightly grease an 8×8‑inch baking pan.
  • Combine dry ingredients: In the pan (or a bowl), whisk flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Create wells: Make three small wells in the dry mix. Pour vanilla into one, vinegar into the second, and oil into the third.
  • Add liquid: Pour cold water over everything. Stir until the batter is smooth and no dry spots remain.
  • Bake 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool completely on a rack. Dust with powdered sugar or glaze if desired, slice, and serve.
